April 3, 2012
Since our last BLOG in February, after we returned from the Gospel Music Celebration Cruise, a lot has happened. First of all, the concerts that were held in March were all successful. Not the crowds that we had hoped for but the financial support for the groups was sufficient.
Keepers Of The Faith concert held at Adventist Community Church in Vancouver and Lynchwood Church of God in Southeast Portland was a great surprise! This was the first time we had heard this group. We were very impressed. They are professional all the way and they are from the Northwest. Keep them in mind next time we announce they are coming our way. You will like them.
We were very saddened when we heard that one of the most respected concert promoters in the Pacific Northwest, Jim Arneson, was killed in a tragic automobile accident. He has brought many professional national Southern Gospel groups to this area for over 40 years. The service held in Bellingham was overwhelming. The family was very strong, with God's help, and will be carrying on his legacy for bringing Gospel groups to the Seattle area. They all sing and were very involved with what their father was doing. We will keep them in our prayers.
The Tribute Quartet on March 15th was one of the best concerts of 2012 so far! Their blend is so smooth and their sound is so good. It is a treat to hear them. They sang a great concert and all that attended were blessed. We are happy to announce they will be back next year. We don't know the venue where they will be singing but watch our website as the time gets closer. We had a great time of fellowship after the concert with the group and they are a great example of Christ-like men. They love singing for the Lord! This concert was also the first time we had a local group, Anna's Kin, open for a nationally known group. Let us know what you think of doing this and if you enjoyed the group and would like to see more local groups open for the concerts.
As you all probably know by now the Gaither Homecoming Concert scheduled for the Rose Garden in Portland on July 27th has been canceled. However, we are happy to announce that Gaither Homecoming Artists, "The Nelons", will be having a concert at my home church in Portland on July 16th at 7PM. It is a Monday night so be sure and mark it on your calendar. They have agreed to come on an offering basis so you won't need a ticket. Don't miss this award winning family singing group this summer! They will also be appearing in the Salem and Brooks area as noted on our the concert page.
We had to miss The Melody Boys for their last ever concert in this area. We were held up in Bellingham time-wise because of the Memorial Service for Jim Arneson. We have heard reports that the concerts were packed and the guys did a great job for their farewell performance. The group is retiring at the end of 2012 after a long career for Gerald Williams of 63 years singing in a Southern Gospel group. We wish him well on his retirement!
We are looking forward to the end of April for the Great Western Fan-fest! My wife and I will be hosting a bus to Visalia with more than 30 people on board to take in the wonderful Southern Gospel groups that will be performing. If you haven't planned to go there is still time to sign up for the bus, or drive down yourself and enjoy the atmosphere of a great 3 days of Gospel music. Groups like The Booth Brothers, Legacy Five, The Hoppers, Triumphant Quartet, The Blackwood Brothers, Greater Vision, The Collingsworth Family and many more will be performing. What a great time will be had by everyone. We will report on that festival when we return.
Well, until next time, keep in mind the upcoming concerts in 2012 and mark your calendars so you can be there to support the groups coming our way. Next one up in our area is The Liberty Quartet at Village Baptist Church May 4th at 7pm. They also have other dates around the Northwest so be sure and check the concert page on this website. Great things coming our way with The Booth Brothers, (get your tickets now), Kings Heralds, The Gaither Homecoming Artists "The Nelons" and The Needhams later on this year in September. Check back with us once in a while for changes and additions. We will also keep you posted with concert updates in your inbox so watch for them also. Thank you for your faithfulness to the Southern Gospel concerts coming to our area, we can't do it without you! Blessings!
